Types of Universities and Colleges in Malaysia
Generally, higher educational institutions are universities or colleges approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia to offer academic courses at certificate, diploma, bachelor and postgraduate levels.
There are two groups of higher educational institutions in Malaysia:
(a) Government-funded public universities, polytechnics, community colleges and public colleges
(b) Private higher educational institutions, which include:
– non-university status institutions such as private colleges
– university status institutions such as private universities and university colleges
– foreign university branch campuses e.g. Monash University Malaysia and University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus
(Note: English is the medium of instruction at most private higher educational institutions.)
